Hispanic Wealth in 2026: What the Data Teaches All of Us

Something important is happening in America.

Hispanic families are not simply earning more. Increasingly, they are owning more.

Homes. Businesses. Investments. Assets that can grow, produce income, provide security, and potentially be passed to another generation.

According to the 2026 State of Hispanic Wealth Report, Hispanic household wealth has more than tripled since the Hispanic Wealth Project was established in 2014. The report identifies progress across four areas of wealth creation: real estate, business ownership, financial assets, and asset protection.

Hispanic Wealth Project Report Download

Those numbers deserve to be celebrated.

But I believe they also deserve to be studied.

Because while this report focuses on Hispanic wealth, the fundamental lessons behind that progress aren’t exclusively Hispanic.

They are lessons about ownership, discipline, preparation, family, protection, and purpose.

And those lessons can serve all of us.

Hispanic Wealth Has Come a Long Way

To appreciate the progress, we need to understand where this particular story began.

The Hispanic Wealth Project was established by NAHREP in 2014, in the aftermath of the Great Recession and 2008 housing crisis. According to the 2026 State of Hispanic Wealth Report, Hispanic households lost as much as two-thirds of their household wealth during that period. Many Hispanic families had purchased homes near the peak of the housing bubble and held a larger portion of their wealth in home equity, leaving them particularly vulnerable when home values fell.

In response, the Hispanic Wealth Project set an ambitious goal: triple Hispanic household wealth by 2024.

That goal was achieved ahead of schedule.

The organization has since established a new objective: reduce the proportional wealth gap between Hispanic and non-Hispanic White households by 50% by 2034.

Hispanic Wealth Project 2034 Goals

There is still significant work ahead. Wealth disparities remain.

But progress matters.

Median Hispanic household wealth more than tripled between 2013 and 2022. Hispanic owner-households reached 10.2 million in 2025. Hispanic-owned employer firms are expanding rapidly. More Hispanic households are also participating in retirement plans, brokerage accounts, stocks, and other financial assets.

To me, the most interesting part isn’t one statistic.

It’s the pattern behind them.

Wealth grows differently when we move from earning to owning.

The Four Pillars of Hispanic Wealth

The 2026 report gives us a useful framework for understanding that shift.

It examines wealth through four interconnected areas: real estate, business ownership, financial assets, and asset protection.

1. Real Estate

Real estate remains foundational to Hispanic household wealth.

Hispanic owner-households reached a record 10.2 million in 2025. The report also states that Hispanic homeowners hold 26.4 times the net worth of Hispanic renters.

That doesn’t mean buying a home automatically creates financial success. Nor does it mean homeownership is right for everyone at every moment.

It demonstrates something more fundamental.

Ownership matters.

Hispanic Wealth Project Real Estate Goals

A home can provide stability and create equity over time. Real estate may also become part of a broader investment strategy.

But a house should not necessarily be the end of someone’s wealth-building journey.

It can be a beginning.

2. Business Ownership

Entrepreneurship tells another powerful part of the story.

Hispanic Wealth Project Growth Among Hispanic-Owned Employer Firms

According to the report, Hispanic-owned employer firms grew 49.5% over five years, compared with 3.7% growth for employer firms overall. These businesses generate $832 billion in annual revenue.

For entrepreneurs, however, there is an important distinction between creating income and creating an asset.

A business may pay you well today. The bigger long-term question is whether that business is also helping you build equity, personal assets, financial independence, and something of value beyond your next paycheck.

Hard work matters.

But eventually we should ask:

What is all this hard work building?

3. Financial Assets

This may represent one of the most important opportunities in the report.

Financial assets represent an important opportunity for Hispanic families to further diversify their wealth. According to the report, 45% of Latinos held a tax-preferred retirement account, yet only 21% felt their retirement savings were on track. Access remains another challenge: only 47% of Latino workers have access to a retirement plan through their employer.

That’s an important distinction.

A raise can increase your income.

A bigger business can increase your income.

A promotion can increase your income.

But income alone isn’t wealth.

What matters is what happens after the money arrives.

Hispanic Wealth Project Retirement Readiness

Do you keep some of it?

Are you controlling unnecessary debt?

Are you investing appropriately for your goals and circumstances?

Are you acquiring assets?

Is your net worth growing?

Those questions take us from making money to building wealth.

4. Asset Protection

This fourth pillar may be the one people overlook most.

We spend years thinking about how to build wealth and surprisingly little time asking how to protect what we’ve built.

The Hispanic Wealth Project itself evolved in this direction. Its original blueprint centered on sustainable homeownership, entrepreneurship, and increased savings and investments. It later added asset protection and estate planning as a component goal.

Hispanic Wealth Project Estate Planning

The need becomes increasingly important as wealth grows.

More than 1.2 million Hispanic households now report a net worth of at least $1 million, according to the report. Yet it reports that only 14% of Latino adults have a will and 11.1% have a trust.

That evolution in the wealth conversation makes sense.

Eventually, we must move from:

How do I accumulate it?

to:

How do I protect it?

and eventually:

How do I transfer it?

That can involve questions around insurance, beneficiaries, wills, trusts, powers of attorney, estate planning, business protection, and other strategies depending on someone’s circumstances.

Building something valuable is one responsibility.

Preparing for what happens to it when life doesn’t go according to plan is another.

Wealth Is More Than a Number

This is where the 2026 report connects deeply with something I teach as a NAHREP 10 Certified Trainer.

Mark Pinilla Hispanic Wealth Project NAHREP 10 Certified Trainer

The first of the NAHREP 10 Disciplines is:

Have a mature understanding of wealth and prosperity.

My interpretation of that principle goes beyond a bank balance.

True prosperity should strengthen your finances, but it should also create greater freedom, family strength, purpose, and the opportunity to make an impact.

You can earn a lot of money and still live paycheck to paycheck.

You can own an expensive car and have little invested for retirement.

You can have a successful business while your family is financially vulnerable if something happens to you.

Visible success and financial strength are not always the same thing.

That is why I want people to think about wealth differently.

A Simple Wealth-Building Journey

One way I think about the process is:

EARN → KEEP → BUILD → PROTECT → TRANSFER → IMPACT

Earn: Develop your skills, profession, or business so you can produce income.

Keep: Control spending and debt so everything you earn doesn’t disappear.

Build: Acquire assets that support your long-term goals. These may include investments, real estate, retirement assets, or business equity.

Protect: Consider the financial and legal risks that could disrupt what you’re building.

Transfer: Decide intentionally how assets and knowledge should reach the next generation.

Impact: Use your success, experience, resources, and time to improve lives beyond your own.

The first five can help create and preserve wealth.

The sixth gives wealth greater meaning.

Why This Matters Beyond the Hispanic Community

I’m proud to discuss Hispanic wealth. I’m proud of the resilience, entrepreneurship, family responsibility, sacrifice, and aspiration reflected in this report.

But my work isn’t limited to Hispanic families.

The data may tell a Hispanic story. The disciplines behind building a stronger financial life can serve everyone.

Whether your last name is García, Johnson, Williams, Patel, Rodriguez, Smith, or something else, the fundamental questions remain remarkably similar.

What are you earning?

What are you keeping?

What do you own?

What do you owe?

What are you building?

What have you protected?

And who benefits from everything you’re working so hard to create?

Those are not Hispanic questions.

They are human questions.

Financial Freedom Starts With Clarity

Reading a national wealth report can tell us where millions of households are heading.

It cannot tell you where your household stands.

That’s personal.

You may need to reduce debt.

You may be doing well financially but haven’t accumulated enough outside your home or business.

You may need to think more intentionally about retirement.

You may be concerned about paying for your children’s education.

Perhaps you’ve accumulated meaningful assets but haven’t given enough attention to protecting your income, family, or estate.

Before deciding on solutions, you need clarity.

That’s why I believe in starting with what I call a Financial Blueprint conversation.

The purpose is simple: understand where you are today, clarify where you want to go, identify potential gaps, and determine which areas deserve attention.

Not everyone needs the same strategy.

Your goals matter.

Your family matters.

Your timeline matters.

Your financial situation matters.

And your dreams matter.

From Survival to Legacy

Financial progress often begins with survival.

Can I pay the bills?

Then comes stability.

Can I get out of debt and build some breathing room?

Eventually, the questions become bigger.

Can I build financial freedom?

Can I help my children start from a stronger position?

Can I use what I’ve learned and built to serve someone else?

That’s the progression I care about:

SURVIVAL → SUCCESS → SIGNIFICANCE → LEGACY

My vision of legacy isn’t simply leaving money behind.

I want my legacy to be that I served others so they could live a better quality of life and become better versions of themselves, financially, educationally, spiritually, and in their family lives.

And I hope they choose to serve others in the same way.

That’s when wealth becomes más que dinero.

More than money.

It becomes freedom, family, purpose, service, and the opportunity to leave people better than we found them.

Your Next Step: Start With Your Own Financial Picture

Hispanic Wealth Project Wealth Report

The 2026 State of Hispanic Wealth Report gives us encouraging evidence of what can happen when income increasingly becomes ownership.

Now bring the question home.

Which part of your financial life deserves more attention right now: earning, keeping, building, protecting, transferring, or impact?

You don’t need to solve everything today.

But you should know where you’re starting.

If you’d like to have a Financial Blueprint conversation with me, we can look at your current situation, goals, dreams, and financial priorities and identify the areas that may deserve your attention next.

You Have a Will — Whether You Wrote It or the State Did

🛑 Estate Planning for Hispanic Families

Only 25% of Hispanic homeowners over age 50 have a will or trust — the lowest rate of any demographic in the U.S.

This isn’t just a stat.
It’s a red flag for unprotected generational wealth.

Because when you don’t have an estate plan, the state decides:
🏠 Who gets your home
👨‍👩‍👧 Who raises your children
💰 How your assets are divided
⏳ How long your family waits
💔 And how much it costs them in probate

If you don’t have a will, the state has one for you.
But it won’t reflect your values, protect your legacy, or preserve peace in your family.

And while estate planning is often misunderstood as a “luxury,” it’s actually the foundation of wealth preservation. Especially if you’re a homeowner, a parent, or a business owner.

Here’s what you need to protect your assets:

✅ A Living Will – outlines your healthcare decisions
✅ A Revocable Trust – avoids probate, keeps your affairs private
✅ A Durable Power of Attorney – gives a trusted person legal authority if needed
✅ A valid Will – ensures your wishes are clear and enforceable

🎥 Watch this quick video to see how easy it is to begin:

From Flash to Freedom: Real Wealth Is Built, Not Flaunted

Redefining Latino Wealth: From Flash to Freedom

For too long, we’ve been taught that success is something you show. However, real wealth is built not flaunted, and that truth is finally taking root in our community.

Because of this shift, Latino families are no longer chasing image alone. Instead, we are choosing freedom, legacy, and long-term control over short-term applause.

Why Flash Fails and Freedom Wins

Let’s be honest.

Flash is temporary. Flex fades. However, freedom compounds.

When we define wealth by what we show, we get trapped in survival mode. As a result, we stay busy but never build ownership.

Instead, we must define wealth by what we own, invest in, and protect. For this reason, Latino families are making powerful shifts:

  • Less showing off, more showing up
  • Fewer liabilities, more income-generating assets
  • No more chasing approval – only chasing freedom

Más Que Dinero: My Philosophy for Latino Wealth

Más Que Dinero is not just a phrase — it’s my philosophy.

I created this philosophy through deep reflection and collaboration with organizations like NAHREP and the Hispanic Wealth Project, both of which have shaped how I see wealth, legacy, and purpose in the Latino community.

To me, Más Que Dinero means that true wealth goes beyond income. It’s about building a life of purpose, ownership, and legacy.

This philosophy is rooted in five guiding beliefs:

  • Value time over status
  • Build assets, not just income
  • Live below your means so you can rise above limits
  • Invest with intention, not impulse
  • Define wealth by what you leave behind, not what you show

This is more than financial advice. It’s a personal mission. It’s a cultural reset. It’s a mindset that empowers Latino professionals and immigrant parents to shift from survival mode to strategic growth.

Más Que Dinero is still new, but the values it reflects have been in our families for generations — sacrifice, discipline, faith, and hard work.

Why Real Wealth Is Built Not Flaunted

The 2025 State of Hispanic Wealth Report confirms that Latino families are not just dreaming about wealth — they are actively building it. Across the four pillars of prosperity, the data tells a story of cultural transformation:

  • Homeownership: Hispanic homeownership reached 49.5%, holding steady despite rising interest rates and housing costs. It reflects resilience and the desire for permanence and generational equity.
  • Entrepreneurship: Latinos started 36% of all new businesses in the U.S., nearly double our share of the population. The challenge now is scaling beyond solopreneurship and building long-term equity through systems and teams.
  • Investments: Our participation in retirement and financial markets is growing, but still below national averages. The report highlights a rising awareness of long-term investing through culturally relevant education and access.
  • Asset Protection: The report reveals a critical gap — very little data is available on the use of trusts, wills, life insurance, or estate planning in Latino communities. This silence speaks volumes. Protecting what we build is just as important as building it. We must normalize conversations around legal tools that safeguard our legacy.

This is not just data. It’s a reflection of shifting priorities — from spending to strategy, from income to ownership. The Más Que Dinero philosophy aligns with this momentum and gives it structure, language, and urgency.

What Real Wealth Looks Like in Real Life

Real wealth is quiet. It does not beg to be seen.

It shows up in:

  • A paid-off home
  • Monthly income from dividend stocks or rental units
  • Emergency funds that eliminate fear
  • Trusts and wills that secure your family’s future

Real wealth isn’t loud. It’s strong, steady, and unstoppable. Therefore, we must prioritize building it every day.

How to Start Your Shift Right Now

You don’t need six figures to start building wealth. You only need the courage to take one step.

Here are three ways to begin today:

  1. Audit your spending. What are you buying to impress others?
  2. Start investing. Open a simple brokerage account and buy a low-cost index fund.
  3. Adopt the Más Que Dinero mindset. Choose actions that create freedom, not just applause.

Every decision matters. Every dollar is a tool. Every habit is a seed.

Build What They Cannot Take Away

If you’re a Latino professional or immigrant parent, you are not just working to survive. You are building something bigger.

You were not born to hustle endlessly and leave nothing behind. You were born to build. To own. To change your family tree.

Start now:

  • Embrace the Más Que Dinero philosophy
  • Talk to your children about assets, not just jobs
  • Invest in freedom, not flex

Because real wealth is built not flaunted. And what you build today becomes someone else’s freedom tomorrow.

Redefine Wealth to Build Lasting Prosperity for Latinos

Redefine wealth to build lasting prosperity. That’s the shift Latino families and professionals must make if we’re serious about changing our financial reality. This isn’t about working harder. It’s about thinking differently.

Many of us were raised to believe that wealth is something you show. Cars, clothes, and brand names become symbols of success. But those symbols come with invisible costs: debt, stress, and missed opportunities for real ownership.

Discipline #1 from the NAHREP 10 is clear. We must move beyond the surface and develop a mature understanding of wealth. True prosperity doesn’t shout. It compounds.

Illustration of financial growth symbols like stocks, buildings, and savings, representing long-term financial security over material possessions.

The Flash Trap

Carlos was a top real estate agent. Designer clothes, expensive car, no investments. His sister Mariana lived modestly but bought her first property at 28. Ten years later, Carlos was juggling debt. Mariana had multiple streams of income.

Same family. Same opportunity. Different mindset.

Too often, we trade long-term security for short-term status. We can’t build a financial legacy on image alone. We have to redefine wealth to build lasting prosperity and we have to start now.

What Real Wealth Looks Like

Real wealth gives you options. It includes:

  • Income-producing assets
  • Financial stability over flash
  • Room to take risks without panic
  • Legacy for the next generation

This kind of wealth isn’t loud or visible. It’s intentional, disciplined, and rooted in clarity.

Consumption vs. Control

Many spending habits come from a need for recognition. But when you shift from spending to investing, you stop seeking validation and start building power.

Ask yourself:

  • Is this purchase for impact or image?
  • Will this decision move me closer to freedom?
  • Am I acting from strategy or emotion?

The more you ask these questions, the faster you gain control of your financial story.

The State of Latino Wealth

According to the Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances, only 33 percent of Latinos own a retirement account, and just 15 percent own a brokerage account. That means the vast majority are not participating in the long-term wealth-building tools that drive financial freedom.

These are not just numbers. They are red flags.

When 96 percent of Latinos have transactional accounts, but only a fraction invest, it shows that most are stuck in a cycle of spending and saving — not growing.

This isn’t just a gap in numbers. It’s a gap in access, education, and mindset.

The system wasn’t designed with Latino stories in mind. But we don’t need permission to change that. We need tools, mentors, and a shift in perspective. We must move from chasing status to creating security.

This is why the NAHREP 10 Certified Trainer Program was created. It exists to spread culturally relevant financial education, increase Latino homeownership, and expand generational wealth.

Mark Pinilla is a NAHREP 10 Certified Trainer for this exact reason. He helps individuals break old money patterns, make strategic financial decisions, and build lives based on equity, not appearance.

Once you understand how the game works, you stop playing small.

Five Steps to Redefine Wealth

  1. Review your last 30 days of spending. What built your future and what fed your image?
  2. Open a brokerage account. Start with what you have. Consistency beats size.
  3. Replace your content diet. Follow educators, not flexers.
  4. Talk about wealth at home. Normalize it.
  5. Before every expense, ask: does this build freedom?

Redefine Wealth to Build Lasting Prosperity

This is more than a phrase. It’s a strategy.

To build lasting prosperity, Latinos must stop outsourcing wealth to appearance. The future belongs to those who invest, not impress.

Discipline #1 demands clarity and courage. Clarity to define what really matters. Courage to make decisions that honor that clarity.

Start small. Stay focused. Keep growing. The legacy you build will be louder than anything you wear.

Protect Your Legacy with Simple Estate Planning

Protect Your Legacy: A Simple Guide to Wills, Trusts, and Asset Protection

Imagine working your entire life to build something meaningful. A home, savings, a business. The real question is, will your legacy be protected when you are gone? Protect your legacy with simple estate planning to ensure that everything you have worked for continues to benefit the ones you love.

Without a plan, families often face court battles, unnecessary taxes, and confusion during already difficult times. You have the power to change that. Safeguarding your family’s future with basic estate planning ensures your wishes are honored and your assets pass smoothly to the next generation.

Preserving your legacy does not require complicated strategies. It simply requires taking intentional, thoughtful steps like writing a will, setting up a trust, or designating a healthcare directive. With a few key documents, you can protect your estate and provide your family’s peace of mind.

Remember, estate planning is an act of love, not just a legal process. It involves giving your family clarity, security, and the gift of an easier tomorrow.

If you want to protect your legacy using estate planning that’s simple, start today. Your future self and your family will thank you.

Why You Need a Will

A will is your voice when you are no longer here.

Without one, the court decides who gets what, not you. That often leads to unnecessary delays, massive expenses, and family conflict.

A will gives clarity, protects minor children, and honors your wishes. It is your first line of defense in estate planning.

Why You Might Need a Trust

A trust takes it a step further.

While a will must go through “probate” (an expensive, public court process), a properly set up trust keeps your estate private and efficient.

  • No court involvement
  • No lengthy delays
  • Immediate access to funds for your loved ones

Especially if you own real estate, a trust can be a game-changer in protecting your legacy.

What is a Living Will?

A living will protects your dignity and ensures your healthcare wishes are honored if you become incapacitated. It removes the burden from your family, sparing them from making heartbreaking decisions without guidance. A living will offers peace of mind during moments of extreme stress and safeguards your legacy through thoughtful choices.

What is a Lady Bird Deed (or Title)?

Especially useful in states like Florida and Texas, a Lady Bird Deed lets you transfer real estate to heirs automatically at death without probate, while keeping full control during your life. This deed is a strategic tool for simplified estate planning.

It is like handing off the baton smoothly, without dropping it.

A Real-World Story

Maria and John had two kids and a modest home. They figured they were too young to need a will.

When John passed away unexpectedly, Maria spent two painful years in probate court, draining $30,000 in legal fees. Money their kids could have used for college.

All because they had not spent a few hours planning.

Don’t let your family’s legacy suffer. Protect your legacy with simple estate planning.

Your Next Step: Work With Someone You Trust

Every family is different. That is why it is critical to work with someone who can guide you to the right solution customized for your life, your assets, and your wishes.

Mark Pinilla has the resources to guide you to the right professionals and organizations that can help you navigate wills, trusts, living wills, Lady Bird Deeds, and more with wisdom and compassion.

Final Thought: Estate Planning is Love in Action

It is not about how much money you have.

It is about making sure your life’s work and your love get passed on the right way, ensuring your legacy is protected with simple estate planning.
